Abuja is the modern capital city of Nigeria. It is located in the center of Nigeria in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Abuja is a planned city built mainly in the 1980s, officially becoming Nigeria's capital on 12 December 1991.
The Jahi District is part of Abuja and also our design zone.
Design Principles & Criteria:
- Developing hierarchical networks of functional systems (provision of services in neighborhood, local and distrait levels), movement system (arterial, distributors and access roads), and spatial organization (neighborhood units, functional corridors and open and green spaces).
- Provision of local and urban services alongside open and green spaces modified for waterways and natural features of the site.
- Setting apart vehicular and pedestrian movement networks for provision of access and safe routes and spaces
(such as bazaar and local shopping facilities).
- Generating identity in neighborhoods by creating a variety
of spaces in accordance to the characteristics of the site topography and observance of hierarchical spatial divisions.
- Providing for the residents services needs according to the
quantitative targets of Abuja Master Plan, along with a network of functional centers by the side of green and open spaces (from civic centers around the central square to the local centers in the heart of neighborhood).
